CNC FINISHING OPTIONS

●As machined (standard)

●Bead blasting

●Polishing Heat treating

●Anodizing

●Brushing

●Screen printing

●Passivating

Smooth machining (Ra1.6)

A finishing CNC machining operation can be applied to the part to

reducesurface roughness. The standard smoothing surface roughness (Ra) is 1.6 μm (64 μin). Machine marks are less evident but still visible

Bead blasting

Bead blasting adds a uniform matte or satin surface finish on a machined part, removing the tool marks.

Parts are bead blasted to #120 grit and then anodized (type II). Ideal for increasing the corrosion resistance of the part. Results in naturally matte colours.

Brushed + Anodizing  (Glossy)

Parts are brushed and then anodized type II. Ideal for increasing the corrosion resistance of the part. Typically results in a glossy color

For glossy colours, please select the brushed anodizing option.

Electropolishing

Electropolishing is an electrochemical process used to clean metallic surfaces and reduce micro-roughness of stainless steel parts. Useful to remove a thin (up to 10μm) layer of material and improve surface finish.

Anodizing

Anodizing improves corrosion resistance, enhancing wear resistance and hardness, and protecting the metal surface. Widely used in mechanical parts, aircraft, and automobile parts, precision instruments, etc.

What is Alodine coating?

Alodine is chromate conversion coating, more commonly known as chem film or by its brand name Alodine, its chemical coating that passivates and protects aluminum from corrosion. It is also used as a base layer before priming and painting parts. The standard most commonly specified in engineering applications is MIL-DTL-5541F, which refers specifically to coating of aluminum alloys.

This protective layer is much thinner than an anodizing layer, and while both are created by immersion of parts into a bath, Alodine is a simple chemical coating and the process does not use electrical current.

Alodine is a slightly cheaper process than anodizing, though it is more prone to scratches, wear, and cosmetic damage. The most common color of the coating is an iridescent greenish-gold, and thus it may also be used for cosmetic purposes. However, this color comes from hexavalent chromium, which is toxic, so for RoHS compliance needs, there are clear versions of the coating available as well.

Chromate conversion coatings are used for heat sinks, automotive wheels, and everyday aluminum hardware and components. In aerospace applications, chromate conversion coatings are used on aircraft hulls, including shock absorbers, side and torsion struts, landing gear, and flight control systems such as rudder systems and wing parts.

Chem film is applied by dipping, brushing or spraying, and the chromate conversion coating thickness does not change the dimensions of the part. Conversion coating on aluminum can also improve the adhesion of both paint and primer if it is applied to an aluminum surface prior to the primer.
